Emmy-winner as showrunner, a writer, director and executive producer for Mammon 2 (NRK). HBO has also remade Mammon in both Poland (Pakt) and Czech (Mamon). He is also the creator of the happy noir Livstid (For Life) for the national broadcaster NRK. Currently creator and showrunner for Furia season 1 and 2, a thriller-series about fighting right-wing extremism in an ever polarizing political climate in Europe, airing September 2021. It’s about a right-wing plot to affect the most important election in Europe.
In 2015 he created the light-hearted legal-series Aber Bergen that ran for three seasons. In the last two years, he also created and hosted one of Norway’s biggest political podcasts/radio-show, Trump vs the world (Trump mot Verden), about the relationship between American politics, communications and tv-dramas. It ended up as a top 10 show in Norway until it left when the main antagonist left the White House.
PROGRAMME OUTLINE
This is a unique opportunity to examine your role, as a writer or producer, in the ongoing management of the production of TV drama series, and the elements constituting the lead creative role, with all that this would entail regarding the associated responsibilities
Sessions will provide a comprehensive picture of how a show is managed by the creator, showrunner and department heads. Jeff will consider the example of the American tradition of writer/producer in contrasting UK/European and US production models
In studying these perspectives, participants will identify how producers and writers can better synchronise the creative process, and management of the different departments for pre-production, production and post-production, to achieve the best quality results for the vision and delivery of a show

JEFF MELVOIN IS AN EMMY-WINNING WRITER-PRODUCER AND SHOWRUNNER
Jeff Melvoin has worked on over a dozen primetime series and was showrunner on eight of them. In all, he’s been involved in over 470 hours of produced television, most recently as an executive producer on season three of the BBC America series, Killing Eve. His executive producer and showrunner credits include Designated Survivor, Army Wives, Alias and Picket Fences
He was supervising producer of the CBS series Northern Exposure, for which he won an Emmy and two Golden Globe Awards. Other writer-producer credits include the NBC series Hill Street Blues and Remington Steele
Melvoin is also founder and chair of the Writers Guild of America West’s celebrated Showrunner Training Program, now in its eighteenth year. In February, 2015, Melvoin received the Morgan Cox Award, the WGA’s highest recognition for Guild service. He has taught at USC School of Cinematic Arts, UCLA, Harvard, and the Sundance Institute. Jeff has also lent his experience to the European Showrunner Programme, leading sessions at the inaugural edition in 2022 and will be returning in 2023
